Nikon D850 - Focus Shift at the Gardens

The Focus Shift feature on the Nikon D850 had me hooked , so off I went to Singapore Botanic Gardens hoping to find some good scenes / subjects for me to experiment Focus Shift on. I also wanted to create images that would normally not be composed unless some form of focus stacking technique was employed. Here is one scene which I find very interesting. For the scene , I wanted to focus on the TWO main subjects : 1. the frog that was resting on the water lily leaf ....... dis

Nikon D850 - A day at the River Safari

It's been years since I visited the River Safari , so I decided to give the Nikon D850 and my Nikkor 60mm f2.8 micro lens a workout at this attraction. I recommend bringing a macro lens like the Nikkor 60mm or the Nikkor 105mm to places like this as the lighting can be pretty dim so the fast aperture of f2.8 can help a lot. Also the macro lenses allow for very close distance focusing which is an excellent way to capture impactful images !! The Nikon D850's Auto Focus performa

Nikon D850 - The Incredible Focus Shift feature

I wanted to play with the Focus Shift so badly that I decided to spend a couple of hours doing some macro photography on flowers in the Flower Dome , Gardens By The Bay. A few tips & lessons that I have learnt from today's session : 1. after composing the shot, prefocus to a point just before the nearest point to the camera that you want sharp becomes in focus. This would then become the start focus point. 2. AF must of course be enabled , use AF-S 3. For smaller size flowers

Nikon D850 - First experience with Focus Shift (Focus Stacking)

This is the first time Nikon has introduced this feature and it is in the Nikon D850 !! I had my first experience using it today at Gardens By The Bay. Basically this feature enables the camera to capture individual images by shifting focus points automatically. The images can be then saved in a separate folder (user defined) which can then be stacked during post processing. Once the Focus Shift setup is done, all the photographer needs to do is to activate start and the came

Nikon D850 - Nature Photography, hunting the Robberfly

Sharing my first reactions on using the new Nikon D850 for macro photography on one of my favourite macro subjects, the ROBBERFLY. My regular Nikon DSLR used for macro work would normally be the Nikon D500 as I like the additional magnification provided by the 1.5x (DX) crop sensor, so would the new D850 provide me with macro images that I expect as this is now a full frame DSLR ? Equipment used 1. Nikon D850 2. Nikkor 60mm f2.8 micro lens 3. Nikon SB700 flash with customise
